Artist Bio
I grew up a potter’s kid as both my parents worked full time throwing pots and running a gallery in Seagrove, North Carolina, “The Pottery Capital of the World.”
I was not going to be a potter or have anything to do with clay. I got married, pursued a career in computer science, started a family, quit my software design job, and started making rubber stamps for the crafting industry which I did for almost 20 years.
During the Covid-19 pandemic my middle son, Henry learned to throw pots. He bought a kiln and my dad gave him a wheel and suddenly clay was back in my life in a new way. My parents moved close by and Henry and my daughter Maggie both started working with them in their studio. I was disillusioned with rubber stamps and wanted to make a change. With two of my kids interested in helping in the studio, when my mom asked if I’d like to take over making her line of small bowls and ornaments I said, “Yes!” It’s a decision I’m so happy I made.
My studio helpers are in college now, so it’s me and my wife, Rebecca, in the studio, making pots and living a busy potters life.
