About Us

Welcome. Whether you visit Altitude in person or come to our website, that’s how we want you to feel. Since 2005, we have been seeking out artists who create unique, beautiful, and attainable work. We believe everyone should have art in their lives, and we pride ourselves on helping our customers find the perfect piece for their taste and budget.

Altitude’s founder, Amy Kirkland, grew up in an artistic, musical, and outdoorsy family in the Pacific Northwest. They spent their vacations camping, backpacking, and running rivers from Idaho to Alaska. After college, Amy traveled across the mountain west, hiking, kayaking, and representing her father’s nature photography at art fairs and festivals. In 2005, inspired by the incredible artists she met along the way, she decided to open a gallery of her own in the Rocky Mountains she now called home. Amy found a nine-foot wide gem of a space in a historic building on Bozeman’s Main Street, and created a bright, cozy gallery with a focus on innovative art and incredible customer service. It has since become a Bozeman institution. When she is not busy working with artists and customers, you can find Amy at the local ski hill or out on a raft with her husband and their dog, Ruby.

Emily Mack is our Gallery Manager. Emily grew up in Frederick, Maryland and moved to Bozeman in 2018. A lifelong lover of art, she has a degree in Art and Business with an emphasis in gallery management. She started at Altitude in 2019 and has made us laugh every day since. When she’s not in the gallery, Emily loves painting, playing music, spending time with her adorable pup, MOMA, connecting with her community, and doing anything outdoors.

Our Sales Manager is Jen Frederick. Jen is a 5th generation Montanan and grew up here in Bozeman. She has worked in a number of beloved downtown businesses over the years, before landing at Altitude in 2021. A caring, nurturing soul, Jen enjoys connecting with people in the gallery and helping them find art that speaks to them. She studied photography in school and still enjoys taking pictures as well as creating jewelry using meaningful stones and crystals. In her free time, she also loves camping and hiking with her lovely dog, Lady.
