Run Into the Storm - Original Painting
Artist: Michelle Anderst
Oil on Wood
36" wide x 48" tall
Note from the Artist: This piece was born when awakening in Yellowstone several times last summer to pre-dawn thunderstorms, then spending the day with bison, who are true embodiments of the grounded, solid Earth element. We often gaze across the rolling hills and realize what we first thought were boulders are their brown humps camouflaged perfectly with the landscape. These magnificent creatures are a keystone species in the Prairie ecosystem. We have seen the hollows of bison footprints in ancient geothermal pools, providing a place for bacteria to collect and proliferate. The plants in the foreground of the painting grow in buffalo wallows, which collect rainwater and create a habitat for salamanders and flowers. I fell in love with one of these enchanting yellow flowers, called Meadow maker, which is perceived by some to be an obnoxious plant. It is hemiparasitic on dominant grasses which creates species diversity and returns hay fields to healthy meadows.
