With its large stature, fire resistant qualities, and beautiful purple cones, the ponderosa pine tree dominates the forest where I live. I love the ponderosa’s vanilla scented bark and the smell of the pine duff on hot, sunny days. This necklace, inspired by my love of these trees and their presence in my life, features a ponderosa pine silhouette set in an enameled background. I hand saw both the ponderosa and the oval background from reclaimed steel, then use a layer of transparent enamel to fuse them together. The transparent enamel picks up the textures and oxides of the steel, while the shine and texture of the raw steel bring depth to the tree.
The approximately 2 1/8 inch high by 9/16 inch wide pendant hangs on an oxidized sterling silver chain, adjustable from 17 1/2 to 20 1/2 inches.
All jewelry is handmade from a minimum of 50% reclaimed materials. Because of the nature of handmade objects, the item you receive will vary slightly from the photograph.Read April Hale’s bio here
